1. What cookies are

A cookie is a tiny text file that a website asks your browser to keep on your device. It lets the site remember something between page loads or between visits — like the fact that you have already seen the cookie banner and what you chose in it. On its own, a cookie cannot read files from your device or do anything harmful.

2. What cookies this site uses

We try to use as few cookies as we can. There are two groups: a small one that is strictly necessary for the site to work, and an optional one for measuring how the site is used. The optional group only loads if you say yes in the banner. The same two groups apply to the pattern designer (app.dragonettecrochet.com).

Strictly necessary

These do not require consent under EU law because they are essential for the site to function as you have asked.

NamePurposeLifetime
dc_consentRemembers whether you accepted or rejected statistical cookies in the banner, so we do not ask you again on every page. The cookie is valid for every subdomain of dragonettecrochet.com, so your decision on the website also applies in the pattern designer, and vice versa.180 days

Your language choice needs no cookie: the Hungarian and English versions live at separate addresses (/hu/…, /en/…).

Pattern designer data in your browser’s storage

The pattern designer (app.dragonettecrochet.com) keeps your work not in a cookie but in your browser’s storage. EU law applies the same rule to browser storage as to cookies. Because the data stored here is strictly necessary for features you asked for — keeping your pattern and remembering your settings — it requires no consent, and the cookie banner does not ask about it.

The data stays in your browser only: it is not sent to our server, we have no access to it, and no third party receives it.

There are two kinds of storage. Session storage (sessionStorage) normally lives as long as the browser tab is open: closing the tab deletes it. Local storage (localStorage) stays until you clear your browser data.

NamePurposeStorage and lifetime
dc-mintatervezo:mintaThe pattern you are editing, so you can continue after reloading the page.Session — until you close the browser tab.
dc-mintatervezo:nezetThe view: the zoom and the position on the sheet, so a reload puts you back where you were.Session — until you close the browser tab.
dc-mintatervezo:fajlnevThe file name you entered when saving, so you need not type it again for the next save.Session — until you close the browser tab.
dc-mintatervezo:jelolesThe notation you chose (Hungarian, US or UK stitch names) and the chart style.Local — until you clear your browser data.
dc-mintatervezo:nyelvThe language of the pattern designer’s interface.Local — until you clear your browser data.
dc-mintatervezo:formatumThe save format you chose last.Local — until you clear your browser data.

A pattern you want to keep can be saved as a file (JSON, JPG, PNG or SVG) to your own device with the pattern designer’s save function; a JSON file can be opened again in the pattern designer later.

These are set by Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and only load if you press “Accept” in the banner; if you reject, the Google Analytics code is not even loaded. They show us — at an aggregate level — which pages get read, where people leave the site, whether the pattern designer is used, and whether the newsletter sign-up works. The website and the pattern designer have separate properties. Google Signals and the advertising features are switched off: no advertising, no remarketing, no cross-site tracking.

If you withdraw your consent, these cookies are deleted immediately.

Section 4.3 of the Privacy Policy describes the data processing by Google Analytics in detail, including the transfer of data to the United States.

What we do not use

There are no advertising cookies, remarketing tags, social-media tracking pixels or third-party ad networks anywhere on this site. The newsletter sign-up (provided by SendPulse) collects your email address and the language of your subscription only, and sets no tracking cookies on dragonettecrochet.com.

The site’s source code contains verification tags for Google Search Console and Pinterest, with which we prove our ownership of the site to those services. These tags collect no data about you, set no cookies, and trigger no requests from your browser.

Server log. The server that serves the website and the pattern designer logs every request — this is not a cookie and does not depend on your choice in the banner. What it contains and how long it is kept: Section 4.4 of the Privacy Policy.

3. How to manage or delete cookies

Changed your mind? You can withdraw or re-grant your consent to statistical cookies at any time by reopening the cookie settings, available from the footer of the website and, in the pattern designer, with the “Cookie settings” button in the stitch palette. On withdrawal, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

You can also manage cookies in your browser. Each browser is slightly different, but they all let you view stored cookies, delete them, and block them in future. The official help pages:

You can remove the settings kept in the pattern designer’s local storage in your browser together with cookies, by clearing site data. The pattern in session storage is deleted by itself when you close the browser tab; if you want to keep it, save it as a file in the pattern designer first.

If you want to opt out of Google Analytics across every site you visit, Google publishes a browser add-on that does just that: Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. More about your data

This page is about cookies specifically. For the full picture of what data we collect, why, and your rights under the GDPR, see the Privacy Policy; the terms governing the services are in the General Terms and Conditions. Questions go to hello@dragonettecrochet.com.
